“Sesame Street Music Works” Tool Kits From NAMM Available This Fall

The children’s television staple “Sesame Street” has been including music making themes in its programming since January as part of the NAMM-funded Sesame Street Music Works initiative. Coming this fall, millions of young music-makers, as well as their parents and teachers, will have a new resource in the Sesame Street Music Works kits from NAMM and Sesame Workshop.

Sesame Street Music Works will be revolutionary for parents and educators, combining broadcasts that reach millions of young music makers every week with resources they can use in their own homes and schools. Through the AMC website, these kits will be offered free to any parent, educator or caregiver.

The kit will include activities and educational tools that use the power and appeal of the Sesame Street characters to encourage children to explore and grow with music, fostering a new generation of music-makers. During the coming months and years, AMC and Sesame Street will combine efforts at every opportunity to advocate music and music education, letting parents, teachers and other stake holders know of the importance of music in the development of children’s hearts, minds and bodies.

Components of the Sesame Street Music Works campaign will be created in both English and Spanish to reach millions of children and parents. Through an activity guide, a home video, and an all-new website dedicated to music making at www.sesamestreet.com, Sesame Street Music Works brings music to life not as a passive activity but as a joyful exploration. NAMM is the founding sponsor of Sesame Street Music Works. The initiative is also co-sponsored by the National Association for Music Education (MENC), the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the Texaco Foundation.

Sesame Street Music Works kits will be available in Fall 2001 and will show kids and parents the fun and value of making music with Elmo, Big Bird, and other Sesame Street friends.
