Dear AMC Members,

It’s my privilege to address you for the first time as the new president of AMC. As a longtime member of the music product’s industry, I know first hand how important AMC’s mission of research and advocacy is to our industry.

As set forth in our mission statement, AMC is dedicated to promoting the importance of music, music making and music education to the general public. Our goal is to build credibility for music and music education, especially at an early age, and to expand that portion of the population that enjoys and makes its own music.

This time of year, as kids head back to school, it’s especially important that we all embrace our roles as advocates. As the beaches and ball fields empty, they’re looking for new things to do. With our help, a lot of kids can find music at the end of that search.

I’m certain I join every AMC member in extending my appreciation to outgoing president Mick Faulhaber for the wonderful work he’s done in this job. Mick presided over an exciting time of new scientific research and market development initiatives, and has been a wonderful spokesman for the cause of music.

I’d also like to welcome Mary Luehrsen, formerly of the music-friendly Texaco Foundation, to her new role as NAMM’s Director of Public Affairs and Government Relations. Mary will bring her considerable expertise to bear on AMC, and it will be a pleasure to work with her.

As the articles in this newsletter attest, it’s a busy season. The message of music is being heard throughout the country, and AMC remains in the front ranks of the fight to bring music making into every school, every home, every life. Of particular interest this Fall will be the appearance of the Sesame Street Music Works program to reach and teach young children and their parents about the important benefits of active music making.

We are experiencing exciting times with the positive shift of public attitudes toward participation in music. I can’t imagine a better time to start this new assignment with AMC as we continue to achieve the common goals within the industry.

Sincerely,
Bill Everitt
